Shek Uk Shan, Mountain summit in Tai Po District, Hong Kong.
Shek Uk Shan is a 481-meter summit in Sai Kung Peninsula that marks the highest point of this mountainous region. From the top, you can look out toward Ma On Shan and see the Plover Cove Reservoir spreading below, giving a wide view of the surrounding landscape.
The name Shek Uk Shan comes from Cantonese words meaning Stone House Mountain, referring to the rocky formations that define this peak. The area has been used by walkers for generations as part of the local routes through the mountainous landscape.
The mountain area connects with stage three of the MacLehose Trail, forming part of Hong Kong's extensive network of hiking paths used by local residents.
The climb takes about half a day and requires sturdy shoes and some physical fitness as the route becomes steep and rocky. There is little shade on the way up, so bring water and sun protection.
Two radio towers mark the summit location, where visitors can observe a 360-degree panorama including Sharp Peak, Sai Kung Port Shelter, and grazing buffalo herds.
