Tui Min Hoi Chuen

Tui Min Hoi Chuen is a residential complex near the coast of Sai Kung containing four apartment blocks with a total of 302 units. The estate includes parking areas, playgrounds, and units sized to suit different household types, including options for elderly residents.

This estate was built between 1984 and 1986 as the first rural public housing project undertaken by the Hong Kong Housing Society in the Sai Kung region. Its completion represented an important step in extending housing provision beyond urban areas.

The estate's community spaces serve as gathering points where residents meet for everyday activities and celebrations. These shared areas reflect how public housing brings together people from different backgrounds to build neighborhood ties.

The estate is best explored on foot, with clear pathways connecting the residential blocks and public areas throughout the site. Daytime visits work best for observing how residents use the spaces and for getting a sense of daily life.

Lady Youde, wife of Governor Sir Edward Youde, opened the estate officially in 1986 and later Governor Sir David Wilson paid a visit in 1987. These visits underscored the importance placed on this pioneering housing venture by Hong Kong leadership.
