Sai Kung District, Administrative district in New Territories, Hong Kong
Sai Kung District is an administrative region on the southeastern coast featuring numerous islands and sprawling natural landscapes. The area mixes residential neighborhoods with rural countryside and several bays dotted with boats and small fishing harbors.
The area developed from isolated fishing villages into a larger residential region starting in the 1950s. The growth of Tseung Kwan O as a planned town brought modern infrastructure and population to the area.
Fishing villages remain at the heart of daily life here, where locals continue age-old practices along the waterfront. At the harbor, fishermen still sell their catch directly from boats to restaurants and residents passing by.
The area connects to the rest of Hong Kong through the Tseung Kwan O MTR station and numerous bus routes. Both modern residential areas and rural zones are easily accessible depending on which part you want to explore.
The UNESCO Global Geopark displays remarkable rock formations including hexagonal columns created by volcanic activity long ago. These stone features formed through natural processes and remain visible in certain parts of the area today.
