Maoshan Daoyuan

Maoshan Daoyuan is a Taoist temple built into the Maoshan mountain range, east of Jurong City. The complex spreads across multiple levels with wooden pavilions, prayer halls, and courtyards displaying carved beams, decorated roof tiles, and traditional stone gates.

The temple emerged during the Tang Dynasty when the Maoshan region became a center for Taoist learning and practice. Over centuries it grew into one of China's most important religious sites, eventually gaining official government recognition as a state-level heritage site.

The temple remains a working center where Taoist priests perform daily ceremonies and visitors can observe religious rituals. This active spiritual life shapes how the space feels and how people move through it today.

The temple grounds are best explored on foot, with pathways linking different pavilions and halls across the mountainside. Comfortable walking shoes are essential since the site spans multiple levels and the terrain is uneven throughout.

The temple preserves an extensive collection of ancient Taoist texts and manuscripts spanning many centuries of religious thought. These written records shape the teachings and practices happening at the site, making it a repository of traditional knowledge passed from one generation to the next.
