Meiling Palace

Meiling Palace is a villa near Purple Mountain in Nanjing featuring two main floors, a basement, and a mezzanine with exterior walls decorated by double eaves and green glazed tiles. The building combines traditional architectural elements with residential design details throughout its layout.

The palace was built in 1934 as a gift from Chiang Kai-Shek to his wife Soong Meiling and later served as an official residence after World War II. Its creation and subsequent use reflect important moments in 20th-century Chinese history.

The villa displays Soong Meiling's artwork in the basement level and contains a private chapel on the upper floor, reflecting her personal interests through chosen decorations. These spaces reveal details about the life of an important historical figure through carefully arranged rooms and furnishings.
