Huāniǎoshān Lighthouse, Maritime navigation beacon in Zhoushan, China
The Huaniaoshan Lighthouse is a cylindrical brick tower located on the northern tip of Huaniao Shan Island off the coast of Zhejiang Province. The structure stands about 16.5 meters tall and features black walls with a white horizontal band near its foundation.
The lighthouse was built in 1870 to serve ships navigating the complex waters of the East China Sea on routes approaching Shanghai from the south. It became an essential aid for maritime traffic in one of the world's busiest shipping regions.
The International Association of Maritime Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities recognized this structure as one of the Historical Lighthouses of the World in 1997.
The tower emits a white flash every 15 seconds to guide ships in the area. A fog signal system produces five blasts per minute during poor visibility conditions.
The structure was recognized as a Historical Lighthouse of the World by the International Association of Maritime Aids to Navigation and Lighthouse Authorities in 1997. China honored it further with a postage stamp in 2002 celebrating its role in the nation's maritime heritage.
