Lai King Estate, Public housing and home ownership estate in Kwai Tsing District, Hong Kong
Lai King Estate is a public housing complex in Kwai Tsing District consisting of eight residential blocks organized into two separate phases. The MTR station sits strategically between the phases, creating a central transport connection with over four thousand housing units across all buildings.
Development of this complex started in 1975 under the Hong Kong Housing Authority, with the first phase opening the same year and the second phase completing in 1976. This project represented an early effort to provide affordable housing for the city's growing population.
The residential complex houses a population of 10,530 people, with 97 percent of residents being of Chinese ethnicity and a median age of 53.1 years.
The estate is easily accessible by public transport thanks to the MTR station positioned centrally between the two phases, making navigation straightforward. Visitors will find various facilities scattered across the grounds and can move freely between different sections of the development.
A new residential block called Heng King House was added to the estate in 2022, representing a major expansion of what was already an established community. This addition shows how the complex continues to evolve and respond to changing housing needs.
