Yanyiwei

Yanyiwei is a four-story fortress in Yancun village that rises distinctly above surrounding buildings, combining traditional Chinese defensive features with residential spaces. The structure displays typical architectural elements from its period of construction and maintains these characteristics today.

The fortress was built over 350 years ago during the Qing Dynasty and follows the Jiajing architectural style of that period. It has maintained its original construction through many generations.

People still live within the fortress walls today, maintaining routines in the historic rooms and spaces. Visitors can observe how traditional residential life continues in this old structure.

The building is easily accessible and requires no entrance fee, so visitors can freely explore all four levels. It is best to travel by local transport and plan arrival in the afternoon to have enough time to look around.

The building allows visitors unrestricted access to all levels without barriers or guided tours, which is unusual for a structure of this importance. This lets visitors explore the rooms at their own pace and discover details independently.
