Shuangfeng Zhai

Shuangfeng Zhai is a stone fortress set among hills in Guangdong and demonstrates traditional Chinese defensive construction with solid walls and strategic positioning. The site makes clever use of the terrain for protection and was designed to house local families as a residential stronghold.

The fortress was built when southern China faced threats from various attacks and local communities needed to defend themselves. In 2006 the Chinese government officially recognized its historical importance and placed it under national protection.
