The Boxes, shopping mall in Hong Kong
The Boxes is a retail building in Yuen Long District built from large shipping containers arranged as shops, restaurants, and snack stands. The open layout features wide walkways between containers, making it easy to move from one shop to another and browse different offerings.
The project was developed to reflect Hong Kong's historic connection to shipping and logistics by repurposing old shipping containers into a modern shopping venue. This adaptive reuse demonstrates how the city integrates traditional industries and salvaged materials into contemporary functions.
The Boxes serves as a casual meeting spot where locals and visitors shop, eat, and spend time together with friends and family. The container-based design creates a practical yet visually interesting setting that feels welcoming and encourages people to linger and explore.
The location in San Tin, Yuen Long District, is easily accessible by car or public transport. The venue operates approximately 12 hours daily, making it straightforward to plan a casual visit for shopping and browsing without time constraints.
One auto parts shop features a distinctive wall decoration designed to resemble the Fujiwara Tofu shop from the anime series Initial D. This artwork functions as a popular photo spot where fans and visitors capture memorable pictures to share.
