Zhukaigou

Zhukaigou is an archaeological site on the Ordos Plateau where researchers uncovered remains of settlements, burial grounds, and workshops. The location shows that people lived here across several centuries and carried out various activities including crafts and burials.

People inhabited this area for about 600 years, between 2000 and 1400 BCE, as excavations from 1977 to 1984 revealed. This research showed that residents changed their daily practices over this long period.

The site reveals how early inhabitants lived and worked in this region through what they left behind. The finds show that people here changed their way of life as they developed new methods to obtain food.

Excavations revealed that residents practiced ritual animal sacrifices, with the types of sacrificed animals changing over time. A striking discovery was complete dog skeletons found in ash pits, suggesting shifts in religious or practical beliefs.
