Frankfurter Treppe / XX. Jahrhundert, Public art mosaic at Main Tower, Frankfurt, Germany.

The mosaic in the entrance hall of Main Tower covers the entire wall height and consists of glass fragments in various shades of gray with blue edges. The composition spans several stories and forms facial portraits that appear three-dimensional through a distorted perspective.

The mosaic was created in 1999 and documents 56 significant figures who influenced Frankfurt during the twentieth century. It combines artistic execution with the remembrance of the city's cultural and scientific history.

The artwork displays faces of scientists, writers, and politicians who shaped Frankfurt's development during the twentieth century. Visitors can discover their portraits on the wall mosaics while walking through the entrance hall.

The mosaic is located in the entrance hall and is accessible from the street without requiring admission. The best view is obtained when entering the building or from the elevators, which provide a good overview of the entire composition.

The mosaic consists of approximately 2.7 million individual glass stones arranged to create a remarkable optical effect through distorted perspective. The portraits appear life-sized in the upper section, even though they are depicted on a single flat wall surface.
