Eurosat - CanCan Coaster, Indoor roller coaster in Europa-Park, Germany
Eurosat - CanCan Coaster is an enclosed steel roller coaster at Europa-Park that reaches 25.5 meters in height and travels over approximately 920 meters of track. The trains reach speeds up to 60 kilometers per hour and hold 14 passengers each.
The original Eurosat opened in 1989 inside a geodesic dome 43 metres in diameter and 45 metres high, decorated by Ulrich Damrau, and carried over 80 million passengers before closing on 5 November 2017. It reopened on 13 September 2018 as Eurosat - CanCan Coaster, a 30-million-euro rebuild inspired by Paris 1900 and the Moulin Rouge, with new track, trains and decoration; the layout was kept close to the original in memory of park founder Franz Mack. The official inauguration took place on 12 September 2018 in the presence of director Luc Besson, Moulin Rouge director Jean-Victor Clerico and dancers from the cabaret.
The queue passes original costumes from the Moulin Rouge cabaret and a replica of the hand of the Statue of Liberty as shown in Philadelphia in 1876, displayed with the Bartholdi museum of Colmar. A room recalls the bohemian and artistic Montmartre of 1900, and outside hang posters of the Paris cabaret. The ride ends with a stage projecting the cancan and a Paris sunrise with fireworks.
Riders must be at least 6 years old to experience the coaster, and can choose between a traditional ride or a virtual reality version. Queue times can grow quite long, so visiting early in the morning or later in the day tends to be more manageable.
Riders can select between two completely different experiences: the classic coaster or a virtual reality version that tells the story of The Phantom of the Opera. The virtual reality headsets transform the same physical ride into an entirely different adventure with narration and effects.
