Poseidon, Water roller coaster at Europa-Park, Germany
Poseidon is a steel coaster that blends traditional loops with water splashes at Europa-Park, combining two ride types in one experience. The track winds through artificial lakes and Greek-themed buildings, reaching heights of up to 23 meters as it carries passengers along its route.
The coaster was built by Mack Rides and opened in 2000 as a European first, combining a looping coaster with a water ride in a single attraction. It set a new direction for how such rides could be designed and built together.
The ride tells the story of ancient times through its design: a temple with many columns and recreations of mythological locations shape the experience. Visitors encounter these elements with each visit and experience a piece of history built into the stone and landscape.
Each boat holds eight passengers and the journey takes about five minutes from start to finish. Children from six years old can ride provided they meet safety requirements.
The route takes passengers through a recreated Greek fishing village called Mykonos, which sits several meters below water level. This creates two distinct sections: open-air sections above and submerged tunnel passages below.
