Schweizer Bobbahn, Steel bobsled roller coaster in Europa-Park, Germany
Schweizer Bobbahn is a steel roller coaster at Europa-Park in Rust, where freely moving cars shaped like bobsleds travel through a steel channel. The cars are not locked to a fixed rail, so they roll and sway naturally through the trough during the entire ride.
The ride was built in 1985 by Mack Rides and was the first prototype of its kind in the world. The concept of freely rolling cars inside a channel inspired similar attractions built in other parks afterward.
The cars are painted in the colors of different nations, echoing the look of real bobsled teams at winter competitions. The ride winds through a replica of a Swiss mountain village, with wooden buildings and alpine details visible along the route.
There is a minimum height requirement for this ride, so younger or smaller children may not be able to board. Waiting times tend to be longer on weekends and during school holidays, so arriving early in the day helps.
Because the cars are not guided by a fixed rail, each ride feels slightly different depending on the weight and position of the riders inside the car. This natural variation means two runs on the same day can feel noticeably different from each other.
