Pegasus, Family roller coaster in Europa-Park, Germany
Pegasus is a steel roller coaster at Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, built around an excavation site theme and rising to about 13 meters (43 feet). The track features banked turns and quick drops designed to appeal to younger riders and families.
The ride opened in 2006 as the ninth roller coaster to be added to Europa-Park. Its construction used a new manufacturing method that made the track noticeably smoother than earlier coasters at the park.
The queue winds through a recreated dig site, with old tools and artifacts displayed along the walls and in cases. Visitors waiting in line already feel part of an adventure before they even board the ride.
Riders must be at least 100 cm (about 39 in) tall or 4 years old to board. Arriving early in the morning or later in the afternoon usually means a shorter wait at this family-oriented ride.
The braking system uses eddy current technology, which was the first time a coaster from this manufacturer used this method. It slows the trains without any mechanical contact, which reduces wear and makes stops smoother.
