Silver Star, Steel roller coaster in Europa-Park, Rust, Germany
Silver Star is a steel roller coaster located in the French-themed area of Europa-Park in Rust, Germany, reaching a height of 73 meters with a track length of about 1,620 meters. The ride was designed by the Swiss manufacturer Bolliger & Mabillard and features a series of camelback hills along its course.
The coaster opened in 2002 and was the tallest roller coaster that Bolliger & Mabillard had built in Europe up to that point. Its opening introduced a new approach to hill design on steel coasters that influenced later projects.
Mercedes-Benz partners with this attraction, blending automotive design philosophy into the ride experience within the park's French-themed section. The connection between German engineering and the coaster's smooth, powerful performance is something visitors feel throughout the journey.
Visitors must be at least 140 cm (about 4 ft 7 in) tall, and a sample seat at the entrance lets you check your fit before joining the queue. The ride lasts around three minutes, so arriving early in the day or later in the afternoon can help reduce waiting time.
Riders experience around 20 seconds of weightlessness spread across the ride, combined with forces of up to 4G at certain points on the hills. This contrast between floating and being pressed into the seat comes directly from the shape of those camelback hills.
