Euro-Mir, Spinning roller coaster at Europa-Park, Germany
Euro-Mir is a roller coaster in Rust, Germany, that winds around five silver cylindrical towers with blue tracks and rises 28 meters (92 feet) into the air. The track extends 980 meters (3,215 feet) and passes through both indoor sections and outdoor areas of the park.
The installation was designed by Franz Mack and built by Mack Rides before opening on June 12, 1997. It was among the first roller coasters in Europe with spinning gondolas that rotate on their own axis during the ride.
The name refers to the Soviet space station Mir and appears in the silver towers and waiting areas decorated with space motifs. The ride passes through indoor sections with star patterns and light effects before the gondolas move outdoors and continue under the open sky.
Visitors must be at least 130 centimeters (51 inches) tall to ride, and the journey takes about four minutes from boarding to exit. The nine trains with 16 seats each allow continuous operation with shorter waiting times during quieter periods.
The gondolas rotate not through gravity or centrifugal force but through motorized controls at specific points along the track. This technical feature ensures that the rotation follows the same pattern in every ride and does not depend on passenger weight.
