Schloss Balthasar

Schloss Balthasar is a Renaissance building with a rectangular layout, three stories, and an octagonal tower on the east side. The structure sits within park grounds and now houses an upscale restaurant offering regional dishes.

The water castle was founded in 1442 by the Boecklin zu Boecklinsau family, one of the oldest noble lineages from Strasbourg. Over centuries, the structure evolved into a symbol of local prosperity and aristocratic influence in the region.

The castle takes its name from Balthasar Boecklin, a family member who shaped its early identity and legacy. Visitors today experience how the historic halls blend their medieval roots with contemporary dining, reflecting the site's ongoing story.

The castle is accessible only through Europa-Park and cannot be visited independently. Plan to visit during the park's hours, and allow time to explore the grounds around the structure.

A Gothic stair tower from the castle remains visible from the town of Rust and shapes the local skyline. The former moat, once fed by the Junkerbach stream, still encircles the structure and hints at its original defensive purpose.
