Regional Unit of West Athens, Administrative division in Athens, Greece
The Regional Unit of West Athens consists of seven municipalities spread across the western side of the Athens metropolitan area. These communities form a connected urban region with varying residential neighborhoods and local service centers throughout.
This administrative region was created in 2011 when Greece underwent a major reform restructuring its local government divisions. The seven municipalities came together under this new regional framework at that time.
The municipalities here each have their own community spaces where residents gather to discuss local matters and celebrate traditional Greek holidays together.
The region connects easily to central Athens through public transit and major roads. Visitors will find local shops, services, and facilities spread throughout the municipalities that are accessible by walking or local transportation.
Two mountains, Mount Egaleo and Mount Poikilo, mark natural boundaries across this region and create distinct geographical zones. These features shape how each community is separate from the others and influence how people experience their surroundings.
