Monument of Agrippa, Ancient pedestal near Propylaea in Athens, Greece
The pedestal stands 9.50 meters tall, constructed with greyish-blue Hymettian marble for the shaft and white Pentelic marble for its base and crown.
Originally built in 178 BC by Eumenes II of Pergamum after winning the Panathenaic Games, the monument later held a statue of General Agrippa in the first century AD.
The monument illustrates the Greek tradition of honoring athletic victories, as it was designed to support a four-horse chariot celebrating the Panathenaic Games triumph.
The structure sits on the western side of the Acropolis, forming part of the main path that leads visitors through the archaeological complex.
The pedestal exhibits a documented westward tilt from the vertical plane, first noted and measured by researcher Richard Bohn in the late 19th century.
