Great Peak of Tapou, Mountain summit in Pyrénées National Park, France

The Great Peak of Tapou rises to an elevation of 3150 meters within the Massif de Vignemale range, connecting the territories of France and Spain.

Mountain guides Haurine and Pierre Pujo led explorer Henry Russell to complete the first recorded ascent of the peak on August 1, 1883.

The peak carries different names across regional languages, reflecting the linguistic diversity of the French-Spanish border region in the Pyrenees.

Climbers must start their ascent from the Ossoue Dam, following marked trails through Montferrat Lakes while carrying proper mountaineering equipment.

The summit marks the watershed between the Atlantic-bound Adour basin and the Mediterranean-bound Ebro basin, creating a natural continental divide.
