Lautaret Garden, Alpine garden in Villar-d'Arêne, France.

Lautaret Garden is an alpine botanical space at 2100 meters elevation in the French mountains, where approximately 2300 plant species grow across different rock garden beds. The site uses the mountainous terrain to display plants in settings that reflect their natural environments.

The garden was founded in 1899 and takes its name from the scientists who created it. It was later relocated to its current location to make room for road construction in the area.

The garden displays plants from mountain regions around the world, arranged by their geographic origin and growing conditions. Visitors can directly observe which species thrive in similar elevations and climates.

The garden sits on a mountain and offers paths between the different plant areas that are walkable for visitors in average physical condition. It is advisable to bring suitable footwear and clothing for the changeable weather at altitude.

The site hosts a scientific research center where biologists study the effects of climate change on mountain plants. This hands-on research allows the gardens to continuously update with new scientific findings.
