Pointe d'Areu, Summit in Haute-Savoie, France.
Pointe d'Areu is a summit at the end of the Aravis massif rising to 2478 meters above the Arve valley. The peak is formed from sedimentary rock and offers views across the surrounding alpine landscape.
The rock of this summit formed during ancient times when the Alpine region lay beneath the sea. Gradual uplift and erosion over millions of years shaped the mountain into its present form.
The mountain received its alternative name, Pointe des Arbennes, from the local dialect word describing white partridges that inhabited the area.
The hike starts from the La Lanche parking area and passes through forest sections with steep passages. Sturdy footwear and surefooted walking are needed, especially on steep sections and in wet conditions.
Two separate peaks share the name Pointe d'Areu with elevations of 2478 and 2462 meters. This similarity often causes confusion in geographic references and hiking maps.
