Quatre Têtes

Quatre Têtes is a mountain peak in the Aravis range near Sallanches, rising above alpine meadows and rocky terrain. The summit provides expansive views across the surrounding valleys and neighboring peaks.

Shepherds have grazed animals in the pastures here for centuries and used them for traditional cheese-making that continues today. This long-standing practice shaped the landscape and remains part of the local mountain culture.

Mountain dairy farms still operate in the surrounding pastures using techniques passed down through generations, shaping how the landscape is used and cared for today. Visitors walking through these meadows see the direct connection between people and the land.

The hike starts from the Burzier parking area and follows mountain trails with varying difficulty across meadows and rocky sections. Sturdy footwear and good orientation skills help as some stretches are exposed and weather at altitude changes quickly.

The Doran refuge was built by scouts and serves as one of the few observation points for reintroduced bearded vultures in the French Alps. From this spot, visitors can watch these rare birds of prey in their natural habitat.
