The Punta Superior del Tapou rises to 3132 meters, featuring steep rocky slopes and multiple climbing routes across the French-Spanish border.
The summit has served as a natural boundary marker between France and Spain since the establishment of the Pyrenean border treaty in 1659.
Local shepherds from both Spanish and French sides maintain traditional grazing practices in the alpine meadows surrounding the mountain peak.
Climbers need technical equipment and proper mountaineering skills to reach the summit, with access routes starting from the Barrage d'Ossoue parking area.
The peak holds four different names across languages: Punta Superior de Tapón in Aragonese, Tapouko Goi Tontorra in Basque, and respective French and Spanish variations.
