Bourgogne-Franche-Comté, Administrative region in eastern France

The region spans 47,784 square kilometers with eight departments, from the wine slopes of Burgundy to the mountains of the Jura range.

The territory emerged from the merger of two distinct regions, Burgundy and Franche-Comté, following the territorial reform implemented on January 1, 2016.

The region maintains two administrative capitals, with Dijon representing the governmental center and Besançon hosting the Regional Council headquarters.

Regional transportation networks connect major cities through 152 cantons, with direct train services from Paris to both Dijon and Besançon.

The area contains the largest concentration of UNESCO World Heritage sites in France, including the Fontenay Abbey and the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans.
