The region maintains two administrative capitals, with Dijon representing the governmental center and Besançon hosting the Regional Council headquarters.
Regional transportation networks connect major cities through 152 cantons, with direct train services from Paris to both Dijon and Besançon.
The area contains the largest concentration of UNESCO World Heritage sites in France, including the Fontenay Abbey and the Royal Saltworks of Arc-et-Senans.
