Pointe du Queyre, Mountain summit in Queyras Regional Park, France.
Pointe du Queyre is a mountain summit in the Queyras region that rises to just under 3200 meters above sea level and sits within a network of hiking trails. The summit offers views across the French Alps and toward the neighboring mountain ranges including the Mercantour peaks.
The peak saw regular climbing activity from the early twentieth century onward as mountaineering developed in the Queyras region. Today the established routes trace paths that have been followed by climbers and hikers for generations.
Local shepherds maintain traditional practices by guiding their flocks through the mountain slopes during summer months.
The hike requires proper mountaineering gear and experience with high-altitude terrain, especially when weather or loose rock makes the path demanding. Start early in the day to allow plenty of time for the ascent and descent.
On clear days, the snow-capped peaks of the Pelvoux massif are visible from this vantage point, one of the less-visited ranges of the French Alps. The surrounding meadows host rare alpine plants and marmots that sometimes appear near hiking trails.
