Budapest District VII, Historical Jewish district in central Pest, Hungary
The seventh district of Budapest covers 2.09 square kilometers and contains numerous architectural structures from different periods of the 19th and 20th centuries.
The district was established on November 17, 1873, and received its name Erzsébetváros in 1882 after Queen Elisabeth, the consort of Emperor Franz Joseph I.
The Dohány Street Synagogue in District VII stands as Europe's largest functioning synagogue and represents the center of Jewish life in Budapest.
The central location provides excellent transportation connections through multiple metro lines and tram routes, with key stations at Blaha Lujza tér and Deák Ferenc tér.
The population of District VII reached 152,454 inhabitants in 1910, marking the highest recorded number before declining during the following decades.
