Óbuda Island, River island in Budapest, Hungary

Located on the Danube River, Óbuda Island extends over 108 hectares with a length of 2,750 meters and a maximum width of 500 meters.

The island became a strategic location in 89 CE when a Roman legion of 6,000 soldiers established their base, making it the capital of Pannonia Inferior.

The annual Sziget Festival transforms the island each August into a massive music gathering, drawing performers and audiences from numerous countries worldwide.

Visitors reach the island through a reinforced concrete bridge constructed in 1967, connecting it to Budapest's District III on the mainland.

Count István Széchenyi established the Óbuda Shipyard on the island, which launched the Árpád-steamboat in 1836, starting industrial steamship production in the Habsburg Empire.
