József főhercegi palota, Former Habsburg palace in Buda Castle District, Hungary.
József főhercegi palota was a neoclassical palace located in Buda Castle District with corner towers and ornamental details. The building occupied a prominent position at Szent György Square 4 and gained its final architectural features during a 1902 renovation.
The structure was originally built between 1787 and 1789 as Teleki Palace before becoming Archduke Joseph's residence in 1892. It suffered extensive damage during the 1945 siege of Budapest and was demolished in 1968.
The palace embodied Habsburg presence in Budapest and functioned as a royal residence for decades. Its architecture reflected the wealth and status of the noble families who inhabited it.
Visitors should know that this site is currently under reconstruction as part of a restoration project that began in 2021. The surrounding area remains accessible and informational displays explain the palace's original design.
The palace is being reconstructed as part of the National Hauszmann Program to restore its original appearance after decades of absence. The project reflects a significant commitment to reviving Budapest's architectural heritage.
