Budapest History Museum

The Budapest History Museum is located in Buda Castle and displays collections across four floors. The exhibits feature archaeological discoveries, medieval objects, and photographs that document the city's transformation through different historical periods.

The museum documents the period before 1873 when Buda and Pest were still separate cities. It shows how these two cities merged to form a unified metropolis and how urban life transformed in the process.

The exhibition rooms display Hungarian household objects, traditional furniture, and reconstructed living spaces from different periods. These items give a sense of how people actually lived in the city across the centuries.

The museum is open on most days and can be accessed from multiple entry points within or near the castle grounds. Visitors should allow enough time to explore all four floors and be aware that some areas require climbing stairs.

The basement level contains preserved medieval ruins, including an original Gothic hall and chapel from an earlier castle structure. These underground rooms come from the structure that existed before the Royal Palace and can still be visited today.
