Palace Chapel

The Palace Chapel is a Gothic-style chapel building within Buda Castle featuring distinctive medieval windows and brick flooring. The space displays Gothic architectural elements and now functions as a museum exhibition area.

A royal ruler commissioned this building in the early 15th century as part of renovating the castle complex. The structure was later buried beneath Baroque additions before its rediscovery in the 20th century.

The chapel displays medieval religious objects and serves as a setting for understanding how castle life centered on faith and ceremony. Visitors walking through can see how the space reflects the spiritual needs of royal residents who once worshipped here.

Access comes through the History Museum located within the castle, which includes entry to both the museum and chapel. It helps to allow enough time to explore both the museum and this space comfortably.

This space lay hidden beneath a Baroque terrace for centuries until excavation work brought it back to light. The rediscovery revealed the original medieval layers that had been sealed away and forgotten.
