Kippure, Mountain summit in County Wicklow, Ireland.
Kippure is a mountain in the Wicklow range located between County Dublin and County Wicklow, reaching 757 meters above sea level. From the summit, views extend across neighboring valleys and distant hillsides on clear days.
A television transmitter was built on the summit in the late 1950s and began broadcasting in December 1961, making this the first television transmission site in Ireland. The transmitter station has remained a landmark on the mountain ever since.
The mountain's name derives from Irish Gaelic 'Cipiúr' and serves as a geographical boundary between County Dublin and County Wicklow.
The summit is reachable via marked walking trails from the Military Road near Sally Gap, with parking areas available nearby. Weather on the exposed ridge can change quickly, so proper clothing and footwear are recommended.
Two glacial lakes, Lough Bray Upper and Lough Bray Lower, nestle on the northeastern slopes in what were once ancient glacier valleys. These bodies of water create green pockets of life within the rugged terrain.
