Mullaghcleevaun, Mountain peak in County Wicklow, Ireland.

Mullaghcleevaun is a mountain peak in the Wicklow Mountains, County Wicklow, Ireland, and one of the highest points in the country. Its upper slopes are made of granite, and the terrain becomes increasingly open and rocky as the ground cover thins out toward the top.

The mountain was recorded in early studies of Irish place names, with scholars tracing the name back to a hollow formation near the top. That natural feature gave the mountain its identity long before it became a hiking destination.

The name Mullaghcleevaun comes from Irish and roughly means "summit of the cradle", referring to a hollow shape that is still visible on the mountain today. Hikers who know the meaning often look for this feature as they approach the top.

The most common route to the top starts from a small car park to the south of the mountain. Weather on the upper slopes can turn quickly, so waterproof layers and sturdy boots are worth wearing from the start.

A small lake sits in a green hollow just below the summit and is among the highest-lying bodies of water in the region. Many hikers heading straight for the top miss it on the way up and only notice it on the descent.
