Shaharut

Shaharut is a community settlement perched on a mountain ridge at roughly 544 meters elevation, located approximately 40 kilometers north of Eilat. From this vantage point, it overlooks the Arabah valley below.

The settlement was established in 1985 as part of development projects in southern Israel. Its creation reflected broader efforts to strengthen settlement in this remote region.

The community operates on principles of mutual support and shared responsibility, with residents actively engaged in farming and local initiatives. This cooperative way of living shapes daily interactions and how people work together.

The settlement relies on desalination technology to obtain fresh water for drinking and irrigation needs. This independence from the national water system is central to daily life here.

Unlike other nearby settlements nestled in valley floors, this one sits prominently on a mountain ridge above the surrounding terrain. This elevated position shapes both its views and the way residents experience the landscape.
