Bet Gabriel on the Kinneret, Arts centre and movie theater in Samakh, Israel.
Bet Gabriel on the Kinneret is a cultural and movie center on the shore of the Sea of Galilee with two theater spaces: one with about 300 seats for performances and films, plus a smaller cinema with about 100 seats for mainstream and art films. The buildings also feature conference rooms, private event spaces, and outdoor areas that all overlook the water.
The center was founded in 1993 by Gita Sherover and quickly gained regional significance as a venue for important meetings. A turning point came in 1994 when King Hussein of Jordan and Israeli Prime Minister Rabin reconfirmed a peace agreement here.
The venue is named Gabriel and was designed as a gathering place for people across the region. Regular film screenings, art exhibitions, and theater performances here shape the cultural life of surrounding communities.
The center sits directly on the lakeshore and offers open views of the water, making it pleasant to explore. Visitors should arrive early, especially on warm days, when outdoor areas fill up and the view of the lake gets crowded.
Architects Ulrik Plesner and Dora Gad created a design that merges modern forms with local building styles, creating a bridge between present and regional tradition. This architectural language makes the building itself an important part of the visit, not just a backdrop for events.
