Nizamabad, Administrative district headquarters in Telangana, India
Nizamabad is a district headquarters in northern Telangana with more than 300,000 inhabitants. The built-up area covers around 43 square kilometers at an elevation of roughly 395 meters above sea level.
The area was formerly called Induru and was first mentioned in the 5th century. The current name emerged in 1905, when the railway between Secunderabad and Manmad opened.
The streets show mosques standing beside Hindu temples, so visitors experience both traditions during religious festivals. Vendors sell handwoven saris and local spices at the markets, where residents gather for shopping and conversation.
The town sits on the national highway and connects to larger cities in the region through regular train services. Visitors find accommodations and restaurants in the center, where public offices and shops are also located.
The Nizam Sagar dam from 1923 irrigates surrounding fields and is one of the oldest modern reservoirs in the region. Visitors can drive to the dam to see the structure and the reservoir.
