Tipaimukh Dam, Proposed hydroelectric dam in Manipur, India
Tipaimukh Dam is a proposed hydroelectric installation at the confluence of the Barak and Tuivai rivers in Manipur. The facility would include six turbine generators designed to produce electricity for the northeastern region.
The Indian government approved this multipurpose project in 1999 and assigned it to the North Eastern Electric Power Corporation Limited. The proposal has remained in planning stages since its initial authorization.
The project area holds significance for the Hmar people and Zeliangrong Nagas communities, who maintain traditional agricultural practices along the riverbanks.
The site sits in a hilly and water-rich area best accessed during drier months. The terrain requires good fitness for exploration since slopes are steep and maintained trails are limited.
The reservoir formation would submerge 291.5 square kilometers across Manipur and Mizoram, affecting approximately 90 villages with 1,310 families.
