Amba Ghat is a mountain pass in the Sahyadri mountain range of Maharashtra state. It rises approximately 600 meters along National Highway 204 and forms a major route across the Western Ghats.
The pass served as a strategic connection between the Konkan region and Kolhapur during the period of Chhatrapati Shivaji. This route enabled both trade and military movement between these two important areas.
The Ambeshwara temple at the base of the pass serves as a sacred site for local communities. Visitors can observe how people gather here for worship and how the location functions as a spiritual gathering point.
The pass is reachable by car from Kolhapur, with the drive taking about an hour and a half. Road conditions can vary depending on the season, so checking weather forecasts before traveling is advisable.
The region is home to diverse wildlife including bison, leopards, and sambar deer that visitors may occasionally spot in their natural habitat. Various hornbill species inhabit the forests and contribute to the rich ecosystem of the pass.
