Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre, Swimming center in Basavanagudi, India
Basavanagudi Aquatic Centre is a swimming facility with two main pools designed for different skill levels: a 50-meter (164 feet) pool with eight lanes for serious training and a 25-meter (82 feet) pool for technique work. The site also has a separate shallow pool for young children, changing facilities, and a gym for conditioning.
The facility opened in 1986 and became a key training base for competitive swimming in Bangalore as Indian aquatic sports grew. It helped establish the city as a center for developing swimming talent during that era.
The center brings together swimmers from different backgrounds who train regularly and compete. Many of its former trainees have gone on to represent India at international level, showing its role in developing competitive swimming talent locally.
The center is located on Pampamahakavi Road in Sankarapuram and can be reached easily by bus from different parts of the city. The nearby National College metro station makes it accessible for those traveling by public transport.
The facility hosted the IWAS World Wheelchair and Amputee Games in 2009, demonstrating a commitment to providing sports opportunities for athletes with different physical abilities. This focus on inclusion sets it apart as more than just a training ground for elite swimmers.
