Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum, Technology museum at Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi, India.
The Eternal Gandhi Multimedia Museum is an exhibition space at Gandhi Smriti, New Delhi, that merges digital technology with traditional elements to present Gandhi's life through photographs, film footage, and interactive displays. It features tactile computing interfaces, collections of newspaper clippings, and electronic harmonium displays that visitors can interact with during their visit.
The museum opened in 2005 at Birla House, the location where Mahatma Gandhi spent his final days and was assassinated in January 1948. The site thus connects the memory of his life with the place of his death.
The exhibition displays Indian symbols such as spinning wheels and prayer wheels that represent Gandhi's values and teachings. Visitors also encounter collaborative quilts that embody his messages of unity and shared purpose.
Your visit allows you to explore the displays at your own pace, engaging with digital and physical elements independently. The interactive components are designed to be accessible to all age groups.
The museum project was directed by Ranjit Makkuni and brought together over 200 artists, scientists, and craftspeople to create 40 distinct multimedia installations. This rare collaboration across disciplines resulted in an exhibition that goes beyond conventional museum work.
