7, Lok Kalyan Marg

7 Lok Kalyan Marg is an official residence in New Delhi serving as the workplace and home of India's prime minister. The property contains five bungalows spread across roughly 12 acres, with bungalow 7 functioning as the office and bungalow 5 as the living quarters.

Rajiv Gandhi became the first prime minister to move here in 1984 after the property was designated as the permanent residence for Indian leaders. The site had previously been part of an older bungalow compound within the protected zone of Lutyens' Delhi.

The complex features a corridor displaying art and mementos from official state visits, including gifts from foreign heads of state and governments. This collection changes with each new prime minister and reflects India's diplomatic relationships.

The compound is not open to visitors and remains under tight security due to its role as the working residence. Those interested in the surrounding area can explore the nearby streets of Lutyens' Delhi, known for their wide avenues and colonial architecture.

An underground tunnel roughly two kilometers long connects the residence to Safdarjung Airport, completed in 2014 to allow quick transport without disrupting city traffic. A team of around 50 staff members maintains daily operations, including medical professionals, chefs, and gardeners.
