Kelwa Beach, village in Maharashtra, India

Kelwa Beach is a long sandy shore along the Arabian Sea in Maharashtra that stretches for about 8 kilometers and is lined with coconut trees. The beach features wide sand areas, gentle waves, and remains uncrowded with two old forts at its ends and a quiet village setting.

The beach is linked to two historic forts, with the larger one at the southern end often submerged at high tide and the smaller one in the north surrounded by trees. Local history is shaped by the Shitla Devi Temple legend, which says that Lord Ram visited this place and created the Ram Kund pond.

The village is shaped by fishing communities whose daily work with boats and nets defines life here. The nearby Shitla Devi Temple serves as an important gathering place for local worship and connects people to their traditions.

The beach is easily accessible by train or bus, with the nearest station Kelve Road about 6 kilometers away and regular connections from nearby towns like Palghar. Basic facilities like toilets, small shops, and parking are available, and visitors should bring sunscreen and water as currents can be strong at times.

The fort at the southern end is regularly submerged by water at high tide, disappearing under the waves and creating an unusual sight for visitors. The northern fort, by contrast, is surrounded by thick greenery and offers a hidden historic spot that few tourists explore.
