Konkan Diva Fort, Military fort in Raigad district, India
Konkan Diva Fort is a military fortification in Raigad district, standing at roughly 900 meters elevation about 70 kilometers from Pune and situated on the border between Raigad and Pune districts. The structure served as a strategic post designed to monitor approaches and control the landscape around it.
The fort was built during the Maratha period and functioned as a surveillance post to watch over the Mutha river valley and Ghol area, preventing attacks on nearby Raigad Fort. It formed part of a larger network of fortifications that maintained control over this sector of the Deccan region.
The woodlands surrounding the fort contain a sacred grove that holds spiritual importance in local traditions and remains meaningful to many people today. Walking through these spaces, visitors can sense how natural places are woven into the religious and social life of the region.
Two main routes lead to the fort: one from Mahad through Sandoshi village and another from Gajarewadi village near Ghol in Pune district. Choosing which path to take depends on where you are starting from, so it helps to research both options before you go.
From the fort's peak, visitors can see three other major fortifications: Raigad Fort to the south, Lingana to the southeast, and Torna Fort to the east. This sight line reveals how the fortresses were connected to one another and how their placement was designed to work together.
