Rifugio Franco Remondino, Mountain refuge in Valle Gesso - Valdieri, Italy.
Rifugio Franco Remondino sits at 2430 meters elevation in the Maritime Alps and accommodates 46 people across six rooms plus a dormitory. The facility is simply furnished and serves as a base for climbing and hiking expeditions in the surrounding area.
The hut was named after Franco Remondino, an Alpini lieutenant who died in 1931 while climbing the south-east face of Rocca Gialeo. The name honors his dedication to mountaineering in this Alpine region.
The refuge serves as a gathering point for mountaineers and hikers tackling the high peaks of this Alpine region. Visitors encounter climbers from around the world who come to test themselves against these demanding slopes.
The refuge typically opens from mid-June to mid-September, with weekend access available in May and June depending on weather. Reservations are strongly recommended, especially during peak climbing season.
During winter months, a 12-bed winter room remains accessible beneath the roof, reached by an external metal staircase. This allows winter hikers and skiers to use the shelter even outside regular season.
