Sanctuary of the Madonna del Silenzio, Gothic Revival shrine in Avezzano, Italy.
The Sanctuary of the Madonna del Silenzio features pointed arches and detailed architectural elements representing the Gothic Revival style in its construction.
Following the Marsica earthquake of 1915, Capuchin friars initiated the construction in 1917 with support from Pope Benedict XV and local donations.
The sanctuary received its official designation as a diocesan shrine in 2020, combining dedication to both the Madonna del Silenzio and Saint Francis.
Visitors can attend mass at 8:00 AM on weekdays and 10:00 AM on Sundays, with the sanctuary opening from 7:30 AM to noon and 4:00 PM to 7:00 PM.
Every Saturday, the sanctuary maintains a day of desert with continuous exposition of the Blessed Sacrament, allowing extended periods of contemplation.
