Little Petra, Archaeological site in Ma'an Governorate, Jordan.
The site features multiple structures carved into sandstone cliffs, including temples, dwellings, and burial chambers spread across a 450-meter canyon.
Established in the first century BC, Little Petra functioned as a suburb of Petra and served as a rest stop for merchants traveling along ancient trade routes.
The walls contain rare Nabataean paintings depicting wine-related activities, suggesting the location was connected to Dionysiac worship during the Roman period.
The archaeological site remains open for visitors throughout the year, with local guides available to explain the historical details and architectural features.
The complex contains the only known surviving interior Nabataean figurative paintings, preserved on ceiling frescoes in Hellenistic style from 2,000 years ago.
