Kobuchizawa Station, Railway junction station in Hokuto, Japan.
Kobuchizawa is a railway junction in Hokuto, Japan, with two island platforms and four tracks. The wooden station building connects to the platforms through a footbridge.
The station opened on December 21, 1904, connecting Yamanashi Prefecture to the railway network for the first time. It sits at 886.7 meters elevation and became a transfer point between the Chuo and Koumi lines.
The name comes from an old term for the mountainous area between two ranges. The wooden architecture follows the style of local farmhouses and fits into the landscape of the Yatsugatake mountains.
The facility sits around 174 kilometers west of Tokyo Station and serves both the Chuo Main Line and the Koumi Line. A ticket office is available for information and purchases.
Travelers can reach the Suntory Hakushu Distillery from here, where spring water from Mount Kaikomagatake is used for whiskey production. Architect Atsushi Kitagawara redesigned the station building in 2017, combining contemporary forms with traditional Japanese construction techniques.
