Shizuoka Station, Railway interchange station in Aoi-ku, Japan.
Shizuoka Station is a multi-level transport hub in Aoi-ku, Japan, combining high-speed rail and regional connections under one roof. The facility features raised tracks with two side platforms for Shinkansen services and two island platforms for conventional trains.
Operations began on February 1, 1889, when the Tōkaidō Main Line connected the location to Kōzu and created regional access to the national rail network. In 1979, engineers raised the main line tracks to align with the Shinkansen level.
The station takes its name from the surrounding city and sits centrally in Aoi-ku ward, where locals and visitors cross paths on the platforms throughout the day. Many travelers use it as a starting point for trips to nearby Mount Fuji or exploring the coastal region.
Ticket machines are available inside the building, and TOICA readers at the gates allow cashless entry and exit. A service counter assists with questions about connections or fares.
The 1979 track elevation created one of the first multi-level station designs in Japan where conventional and high-speed trains operate on the same level. This transformation made transfers between the two systems much easier.
